Nadi Tourist Traps
With warm, tropical water and beautiful jungle scenery in every direction, the city of Nadi on the isle of Fiji may seem like a paradise. While few people come back from a Fiji vacation with anything but fond memories, making the most of your time is crucial. There’s always something fantastic to see, so why waste your time with anything less? Here’s how to avoid the tourist traps at Nadi that suck up your precious vacation time.
Nadi Town
When you can scuba dive on one side of town and hike to soaring waterfalls on the other side of town, why would you bother to spend any time in the town itself? Such is the case of Nadi: It’s a great place to find a meal or a hotel room, but it’s not really worth exploring itself. While some shops are very interesting, many more will pull you in off the street and not let you leave without spending a chunk of cash on a tacky souvenir. Some will even go ahead without your permission and start making a gift that they expect you to pay for.
Sword Sellers
One of the biggest pitfalls of Nadi is the sword-sellers, who find that they can guilt gullible tourists into paying for their goods. Sword sellers often approach people on the street to ask their name. Then, they carve the name into a wooden sword and demand you buy it, sometimes launching into a story about a sick relative who needs the money. Remember that even if they put it into your hands, you can walk away because you never agreed to pay for it.
