Tips on Avoiding Boracay Island Tourist Traps

Boracay Island Tourist Traps

Known for its white sand beaches and famous for being one of the world’s top destinations for relaxation. But like any city there are things to be aware of such as the tourist traps, that tourist can easily get sucked into.

Expensive and Deceptive People

The tricycle drivers seem like an efficient way to get around, but do not even complete the job. Guest have stated that the tricycles cannot bring guest to the beach, they will agree to, but drop you off on the main road near a pathway leading to the beach. If you use hotel transport then it will be much higher than the local bikes with sidecars. Make sure to choose an affordable and nice hotel. It is important not to be on the beach alone at night because there are many prostitutes, tricycle drivers will charge 10 times the normal rate, and prices for common goods are much higher. Prostitutes will try to force their services and it can be unsafe.

Not Safe & Not worth It

It can be fun to go diving and island hopping, but it is not worth the cost. It is important to ask the price before committing to anything. There are different islands such as Puerto Princesa that are just as beautiful and much safer. Attractions such as the Bat Cave tour, is a big mistake. It gets expensive because a mandatory tour guide has to go and is about 350 pesos per person. The cave is very dangerous, even for experienced climbers. There would not be an ambulance or EMT crew near to help. Even the children offering free bracelets to tourist becomes a trap. They offer a free gift and find them later asking for money since they offered a free gift earlier.
