Tips on Avoiding Blackpool Tourist Traps

Blackpool Tourists Traps

Blackpool, located on the northwest coast of Lancashire, England, is highly dependent on tourism. Know which Blackpool tourist traps to avoid before you visit.

Sandcastle Water Park

Sandcastle Water Park is a large, indoor water park with slides, water attractions, food and drinks, and even a spa for adults. Beware, however, that every person needs to pay to get in, even if you don’t plan on swimming. Parents who want to watch their kids enjoy the attractions need to pay the full entrance fee. If you want to visit the water park, know the price in advance.

Blackpool Airport Departure Tax

In 2009, Blackpool Airport initiated the Airport Development Fee, which is a £10 tax charged to all passengers flying out of the airport who are over the age of 16. You can avoid paying this fee if you fly out of the nearby airports in Liverpool or Manchester.

South Pier, Pleasure Beach, and Arcades

South Pier and Pleasure Beach feature carnival-style rides, stalls with games where you can win prizes, snack shops, and arcades. You can enjoy South Pier and Pleasure Beach without spending money, but keep in mind that it is easy to get carried away playing in the arcades and trying your luck at the carnival games. Pleasure Beach has a ride called “The Valhalla,” where you have the option of purchasing a poncho so you don’t get soaked. There are also shops that sell rocks, a Blackpool feature, which you can find for half the price in less-traveled areas. A good strategy is to set a spending limit when you go to the arcade and boardwalks and don’t let yourself exceed your limit. Only spend what you can afford to lose.
