Armenia Warnings and Dangers
The nation of Armenia is located in the South Caucasus of Eurasia. Though relatively safe, there are still warnings you should pay attention to in order to stay safe.
Animals
At many places where the public gathers, you will see many stray dogs scavenging around. Some can be dangerous, so be careful if you try to befriend them. Most are harmless, however.
Also, be careful when driving in remote places, the countryside, and off the beaten path. It’s not unusual to come across cows or livestock in general. These animals will wander onto paved roads and can become a traffic hazard.
Crowds
In summertime, lots of Armenians travel to the mountains because of the heat. It can be very busy and makes getting on a bus difficult. To make sure you have a seat, be early at the central bus station or call ahead to make a seat reservation. For much the same reason, you’ll have difficulty boarding marshutnis, or minivans. They are designed to hold between 10 and 14 people but frequently double this number. If you are claustrophobic, then this might not be an ideal way to try and travel.
Traffic
Most Armenians are nice and helpful to foreigners, and Armenia is a very safe country so long as you watch your step. However, you’ll still want to watch yourself when crossing streets. Armenians play loose with the local traffic lows, and often don’t yield to pedestrians. Make sure to look both ways before crossing.
