  • Bari Warnings and Danger

  • Known for its narrow streets, the old town, historic sites and intricate architecture, Bari is a fascinating Italian city worth visiting. However, you do need to think about a few warnings.

  • Crime Still Exists in a Relatively Safe Italian City

  • Bari is, for the  most part, a safe city. Nonetheless, crime prevails in San Paolo, San Pio-Enziteto and Fesca. Additionally, stay away from the  Japigia, Libertà and Madonnella neighborhoods because some of the streets are unsafe for tourists. Bari is a large city. Bearing this fact in mind, always remember to use your common sense.

Avoid dark corners. Do not wear expensive or flashy rings, bracelets and necklaces. Do not advertise your valuables for the world to see. Keep a close watch over your purse, luggage and cell phone. Enjoy visiting some of the popular restaurants and bars located in the old city. Crime in this area has improved over the past several years.

Even so, you do not want to let down your guard when enjoying the nightlife. The mazelike alleys offer criminals more opportunities to hide after the sun sets. The safest part of the old city includes restaurants and bars located near the Borgo Murattiano. If you are a woman, it is best to visit with a companion, even during daylight hours.

  • Watch Out for Drug Dealers and Pickpockets

  • Drug dealers and pickpockets are infamous in Bari. These people are only interested in obtaining your money. Avoid displaying large wads of cash in front of others. Keep tabs on your wallet.
