Off the Beaten Path in Barcelona: Tibidabo
Barcelona is one of the largest and most visited city in Spain. When in the city, take some time out to climb up Mount Tibidabo. There, you’ll see unrivaled views of the city, the coastline, and the surrounding landscape.
Tibidabo Amusement Park
Besides great views, Tibidabo is also home to an amusement park. If you’re traveling with kids, they can enjoy the rides while you and your significant other take in breathtaking views of Barcelona. The amusement park is relatively inexpensive and is a unique excursion outside of the city center.
How Do we Get up There?
Thankfully, you don’t have to walk all the way up the mountain. At the bottom of the Tibidabo, you can hop on a funicular, an elevated tram, that will carry you up the side of the mountain to the very top. The metro has several stops near the mountain, so you should be able to use public transportation to get to and from the area.
More adventurous or foolish tourists may opt to hike on foot to the top. The path is well maintained, but it’s not a short climb. Even if you’re in great shape, expect it to take an hour or two to reach the peak. If you’re crunched for time, the funicular is the better option.
Beautiful Architecture and Shops
While on Tibidabo, walk around the area and admire the local architecture. Some of the most expensive homes in Barcelona can be found here, as well as boutique shops, restaurants, and bars.
