It may not be the most well-known destination in Arizona, but there are things to do in Williams if you love the outdoors and small towns.

Take Your RV

One of the first things that people may tell you to do in Williams is to take the train to the Grand Canyon. There are convenient RV parks with a train station nearby.  It doesn’t mean that there’s nothing else to do in Williams, only that this particular area makes it possible to do this destination in a day and therefore save a little money. The train will take you about 2.5 hours as you make your way toward the scenic wonder. It will drop you off at the South rim, which is the most popular spot to be.

Outdoor Fun for the Family

The Big Toy Playground is located on the east side of Williams, and has all kinds of equipment for everyone to try. You can operate an excavator or just have some fun with their unique exercises. Or take everyone for a hike from Sheridan Avenue through the forest above town. Eventually you’ll get to the national forest where you can find paths to get to a spring, hill, or lake. If you come across a random gate on this trail, take the path leading down rather than up.

Williams is located on the famous Route 66, and you can still find historic buildings that are representative of the country’s past. Take a horse-and-buggy ride throughout the city if you want a break from your feet, and an authentic way to experience getting around. Learn more about this town and its people from both yesterday and today by visiting the Williams Visitor Center and Museum. Located in the old freight depot, which was once pivotal to the town’s survival, you can find out more about communication methods of Williams. Learn more about the local flora and fauna of the area, too. Much of the US was dependent on towns like Williams that connected the larger cities, as you’ll find when you see the last traffic light before Los Angeles on this famous route.
