Wengen Things to Do
Deep in the heart of Switzerland lies the mountain village of Wengen, a picturesque place of few residents and many tourists. Though small, there are some notable things to do when in the region.
Hiking Around the Mountains
There are plenty of well-maintained trails that you can access from Wengen and the cable car station on Mannlichen. Hiking trails are well marked with large, yellow signs that indicate the destination and the time required to travel to that point. You’ll see them as soon as you get off the train, and you’ll also find them at the station in Wengen, next to the small square that sits just off to the side. They are scattered in many areas throughout the region, so finding a hiking trail that’s suitable for you shouldn’t be too hard. One of the most famed hiking trails in the area is the Lauberhorn course, which provides some of the most beautiful views in the country.
Lauberhorn World Cup Skiing
Many tourists come to this region to go skiing. However, if you are planning a visit to Wengen during the month of January, you will have the opportunity to take in some incredible World Cup skiing. This event happens every year on the hills above the village of Wengen. The race marked its 80th anniversary in 2011 and continues today. The course provides skiers and viewers with the fastest course speeds and the longest courses in the entire World Cup circuit.
