Historians believe that Tossa has been continuously settled for thousands of years and, as a result, it is home to artifacts and structures from the Paleolithic period to the Middle Ages. If you are going to visit Tossa, here are some things you can do to learn about the past and have fun during your stay.
Tossa’s old town, with the ruins of an old castle built during the medieval times, lies behind the old town walls. The walls have lots of little paths and walkways to explore. The railings around the wall are low and you have to watch little children walking with you like a hawk. There is also the remnants of an old Gothic-style church is located between the entry to the castle ruins and the castle itself. You can look through the openings for the church windows and see a fantastic view of Tossa and its beaches.
Tossa has maintained its identity by allowing no corporate chain operations like McDonalds and Hilton hotels into the inner town. There are a lot of locally-owned small shops, sidewalk cafes, and restaurants you can sit and enjoy a meal or a drink. There is also a small bowling cafe and gaming machine studio which can be quite fun.
Beaches, some topless, line the shoreline of Tossa that you can relax to get some sun and swim during the day or to watch the moon rise up from the sea in the evening. You can also watch as fishermen take their small boats out in the morning and evening. It's fascinating to watch the process of fishermen prepare their boats, get it to the water's edge, and then spot their lights bobbing offshore at dusk.
