Visit some iconic attractions
Sapporo is home to numerous renowned attractions. Take time to visit the Sapporo Clock Tower which is the symbol of the city, the stunning Jozankei Onsen area, the old Hokkaido government building that was built in 1888, Hokkaido Governor’s Official Residence and the Sapporo Old City Hall.
Go shopping
Shopping in Sapporo can make for an exciting and relaxing experience. A visit to the Nijo market will see you buying a variety of fresh local produce as well as fresh and prepared seafood. The Tanuki Koji Shopping Arcade features seven blocks from where you can buy almost everything you might need. Here, you will find a movie theater, boutiques, and bookstores. You can also go to the Shoroi Koibito factory to buy chocolates and take them back home as souvenirs.
Learn the rich history
Visiting the museums in Sapporo will give you a sense of the rich history of the city as well as the culture. At the Ainu museum, you will have a great chance to view a wide variety of materials with great cultural properties. Some of the items at the museum include hunting implements, daily utensils, and clothes. The exhibits comprise of items used during ceremonies, fishing and weaving clothes. The historical village of Hokkaido is located far from the city center but promises to bring you back in time.
Attend the festivals
There are two major festivals that visitors to Sapporo should attend while in the city. The Sapporo Snow Festival is held in February and attracts up to two million visitors from different parts of the world. The Yosakoi Soran Festival takes place in the second week of June.
Get a beautiful view of the city
To get a beautiful view of the city, you should go to Mount Moiwa, visit Sapporo JR Tower or climb the Sapporo TV Tower.
Take a day trip on Lake Shikotsu
Lake Shikotsu is a caldera lake whose circumference measures about 40 kilometers. The 25 m deep lake has hot springs in certain areas and presents great opportunities for fishing, camping, and boat riding for pleasure. You can choose to take a boat day trip on the beautiful lake.
