Things To Do in Tadoussac, Canada

Tadoussac Things to Do

From getting up-close with whales to magnificent hikes, this is one place that is ideal for those who love nature. The small, charming village of Tadoussac makes the perfect place to commune with nature and enjoy the wild side of Canada.

Go Whale Watching

Located where the Saguenay and Saint Lawrence rivers meet, Tadoussac is where many species of whales congregate. You can see the whales here in many ways. A cruise on the river will give you a firsthand look at many varieties of whales from deeper waters. Many cruises offer not only the chance to see whales but also trained naturalists who can help you understand these creatures even better. Another way to see the whales is actually from the shore of the town. From many vantage points, it’s possible to look out and see smaller whales like minkes and begluas. To get really close to these gentle souls, you can also take a kayak on the waters. On land the CIMM– Marine Mammal Interpretation Center will bring you through the lifecycle of the whale and their environment.

Head for a Hike

Hiking is another popular thing to do. Tadoussac is home to several hiking trails. Try the short but scenic “Sentier de la colline de l’Anse à l’Eau.” It’s about half an hour up a hill so it’s only if you’re in good shape. However, the view is worthwhile as you will get a look at the entire area from the top. If you’re in the mood for something longer, you can head up the “Sentier du Fjord.” This is a 42 km that will bring you along the glorious Saguenay fjord and back again to the village. You can go with a guide and stay on the trail for several nights. Closer to the shore, head over the boardwalk and grab lunch from a cafe.

Look for Beavers

Besides whales, this is also home to many other types of creatures. Beavers build their dams in this area. You can take a walk along the river and spot the dams along with a live beaver or two. Other creatures to look for here are the seals that come by the shore to sun themselves on the rocks.
