Agios Nikolaos Village

If you’re staying in Stoupa and walking down to the beach you may notice a distinct footpath. This path will take you to the small coastal village of Agios Nikolaos, some 3kms of a nice gentle stroll. There are a few shops and plenty of cafes to sit and relax in.

Beach Cove

Off the road from Stoupa in the direction of Kalamata, you will pass a little cove fairly close to Stoupa. It’s an excellent stopping-off place for a quick swim when en-route northwards. This particular beach isn’t too sandy but more stony, so you may want to wear shoes in the water.

Kardimili

Stop for a drink in Kardimili, the first port of call when you drop back down to the coast. Be prepared with some sunblock and headwear though, because the shade may be scarce on the hot days. You will want to be prepared to listen to cars driving by, because most of the establishments are near the main road. You’ll find several tourist shops in Kardimili, so check out items you may want to take home with you.  This area is quite an up-market little place, catering more for the individual traveler rather than tourist packages.

Mani

You can’t stay at Stoupa without visiting the Inner Mani! The contrasting scenery on the two different coastlines is obvious and you won’t find more interesting and varied scenery elsewhere. It has a strange and mysterious quality to it with many ancient churches and the old villages with tower houses built to defend themselves from the other feuding villages. A lot of these houses are now being restored, making them beautiful glimpses into the past.
