Southampton Thing to Do
Southampton is one of the major ports on the southwestern coast of England. Southampton is actually called “The Cruise Capital of Europe” because of the number of cruises that come and go from there. Over four million people pay visit to the coastal city each year. If you are planning on being one of those, following these tips on some great things to do in Southampton.
Take a Cruise on the SS Sheildhall
The SS Shieldhall is a member of the National Historic Fleet. The ship was originally used as a steam ship and is currently the largest working steamship made in its style in Europe. The golden age of steam was a major part of the maritime history of England’s rich history at sea. You can experience this by taking a cruise on the ship. The cruise is pretty small as it only holds a maximum of 200 passengers at one time, but it does serve both hot and cold food. There is also a full bar. Many companies and groups charter the ship as a venue for their next meeting.
The Titanic Trail
The Titanic is one of the most famous maritime disasters in history. Southampton was the departure point for that ship’s first and last trip ever in 1912. There is a museum dedicated to the ship, along with various historical walking trails. One of the bet parts of the Titanic Trail is the first floor of the Maritime Museum. The museum relays all kinds of knowledge about the ill-fated maiden voyage of the gigantic ship. It even has a few funny bits of info to pique your interest.
