South Haven is a city in Michigan that sits at the mouth of the Black River, along Lake Michigan. It has a long history as a port town and boasts a number of things to do for visitors to the area.
Michigan Maritime Museum
One of the things to do in South Haven is visit the Michigan Maritime Museum. The museum highlights the heritage of the Great Lakes. Also at the museum is a boathouse, the Lightkeepers House, and the Great Lakes Research Library. The Library contains nearly 4,000 books, maps, nautical charts, periodicals and more.
Located on the South Haven Pier is a lighthouse that dates back to the 19th century. The lighthouse, now a part of the Michigan Maritime Museum, is open for public tours during Harborfest, which is held each June over Father’s Day weekend. If you’re looking to get onto the waters themselves, you can even go on the motorized launch boat, the Lindy Lou, for a cruise on the Black River.

Arts and Music
Art lovers will want to visit the South Haven Center for the Arts. Drawings, paintings and sculpture, are generally on offer. The center is open at various hours, seven days a week.

Each summer, the city hosts free outdoor concerts at Riverfront Park on Water Street, which overlooks the Black River. All concerts begin at 7:00 PM and last until approximately 8:30 PM on Thursdays. Parking is located nearby and concert-goers should bring lawn chairs or blankets. This combination of art and music makes South Haven the perfect destination for anyone, even those who aren’t so fond of the maritime life.
