Nelson Bay Things To Do
Like many of Australia’s cities up and down the east coast, the biggest attraction in Nelson Bay will always be the beautiful beach. However, that’s not all this hidden gem has to offer.
Gan Gan Lookout
Whether you’re in the mood for a hike or just want a perfect photo opportunity, Gan Gan Lookout is the best place to be. It’s the highest point in the town and affords a beautiful look about the seaside, all the way up to neighboring Newcastle. Take Lily Hill Road up the side of the hill until you see the big parking lot for visitors.
The sight of dolphins in the wild can be the must-do of any vacation. Visitors to Nelson Bay have a unique opportunity to see dolphins up close in their natural home, and while no company makes guarantees, it’s rare to go out onto the sea and come back empty-handed. Most boat tours last one to two hours and some have a boom net that they lower into the water itself for tourists to come as close as possible to the genuine article as dolphins play in the boat wake.
Toboggan Hill Park
If you’ve come with kids who are quickly getting frustrated with the grown-up activities, Toboggan Hill Park is a great place for visitors of all ages to blow off steam. It includes a famous toboggan run that gives it its name, as well as mini golf, bumper cars, arcades, and rock climbing.
