  • Matlock Things to Do

  • Matlock is a unique town in the United Kingdom. Whether you've been to the UK before or not, here are a handful of different things you can do while visiting Matlock.

  • Main Street

  • If you arrive in Matlock via the train station (which is one of the most popular methods outside of just driving in with a rental car), you'll walk right onto the main street, which has a nice collection of shops, storefronts, and cafes for you to take in.

  • Hall Leys Park

  • The park is located in the center of the town making it great for a stroll or to bring a packed lunch. Additionally, boats are available for rent here, so you can use a canoe-style boat or something with less of a tipping potential (which is a better idea if unfamiliar with water sports).

  • Chatsworth House Garden

  • The Chatsworth House garden is a rather large area with a beautiful collection of plants. It has been used in several films and shows, including the old BBC "Chronicles of Narnia" TV show. Stop by and just enjoy the walk for a fantastic way to spend an afternoon.

Do note that there are several different Chatsworth houses, usually identified via a number. The house garden is located in house 4. However, the other three houses bring individual elements you might like, including beautiful interiors and old arched bridges.

  • Matlock Bath War Memorial

  • It isn't a very large war memorial, but located in the Town Promenade you'll find a tastefully constructed memorial statue. It originally went up during the World War I and listed those from the town who died in the war. During WWI, entire towns were kept together, so if one particular unit was hit hard in fighting, a single town often lost a large number of its young men.
