Things to Do in Manzanillo, Mexico

Manzanillo Things to Do

Manzanillo is a city in Mexico that contains one of the busiest ports in the country. As a beachside city that regularly draws crowds of tourists, there are many things to do along the coast.

Beaches

If you travel to Manzanillo, the destinations you will want to travel to are the local beaches. The sea is without doubt one of the greatest attraction in the city. Manzanillo is split across two bays: Manzanillo Bay and Santiago Bay.  While the city is alongside the first one, the best beaches are along the second one. Manzanillo’s beaches are some of the cleanest along Mexico’s tourist coasts, and they are also very safe. The beaches are shaped by local coves that are small and easy to find, making the area ideal for family vacations. Visitors should be warned that the beaches at Manzanillo bay drop off into the ocean more quickly than at Santiago bay, and the wave action seems stronger.

Every beach in Mexico is property of the nation, meaning there are no private beaches. You’ll probably spend most of your time on the beach near your hotel, but if you want to visit another one, there’s nothing stopping you.

The City

Apart from the beaches, there isn’t too much to do in Manzanillo. A trip around the city by Taxi will reveal some streets where shops will sell you a few souvenirs or clothing for your trip. The main square is well taken care of, and sitting in its center is a famous sailfish statue designed by the sculptor, Sebastian. Over time, this statue has become the symbol of the city. Apart from the central statue, there is also a much smaller, and usually unnoticed, statue of the comic character, Snoopy. You’ll find him dressed as a fisherman in a corner of the square. The statue commemorates the annual fishing contest held in the city. The statue also honors Saint Paul, Minnesota, the birthplace of Charles M. Schulz and sister city with Manzanillo. The square is also surrounded by some restaurants, and the main street in front of the square is full of shops at which you can buy souvenirs,
