Things To Do in Manado, Indonesia

Manado Things to Do

In the bay of Manado in Indonesia, sits the city of Manado, surrounded by mountains on all sides. The area is most often visited by people because of the great scuba diving and snorkeling that it offers. They also come to sample some of the local cuisines, like Tintuan. There are a lot of great things to do while you are visiting Manado.

Go White Water Rafting

There are some great rapids cutting through the nearby rainforest. There are different classes of rivers in the area depending on what your skill level is amongst the three rivers in the area. The trips can be taken in different lengths including a half-day trip and an overnight trip. There are a few different companies that offer these white water rafting trips. If you want, you can set one up through your hotel’s front desk.

Take a Walk Around the City

Manado is one of the more prosperous cities in Indonesia, so there are some great shops and architecture around the city to check out. Some people choose to just go for a walk around the city during the day to check them out. Unlike some other cities that attract tourists, there aren’t a lot of beggars near the hotels. One thing that you are sure to find while out and about in the city is some great food.

Take a Day Trip to Bunaken Islands

There are a few different companies that offer day trips out to the Bunaken islands. Some even offer them via submarine, but the best way to travel there, if you can, is by yacht.

Tangkoko Nature Reserve

Experience some of the indigenous wildlife of the area at the Tangkoko Nature Reserve, located about six kilometers outside of Manado. Most go there just to see the Black Macaques, the famous monkey with no tail. There are a lot of other monkey species in the reserve as well. Many consider it to be the best nature reserve in all of Indonesia. When you are done in the nature reserve, visit the jungle nearby that is made completely out of black sand from volcanic ash.
