Rock City and Waterfalls in Lookout Mountain
Rock City is to the south of Lookout Mountain, and it’s a historic spot because of the configurations of the rocks, as well as for the falls located there. One of the best things about being in the mountains is stumbling across the natural beauty within it. Lovers Leap is a famous waterfall located here, with more than 100 feet of cascading liquid into the pool below. There’s a cave nearby if you need shade, and platforms built to give you better vantage points! Or see the famous Ruby Falls, which is located about halfway up the mountain, and was discovered in the 1800s by drilling into the cave in which it was found. It’s a major attraction for its beauty and the surrounding rocks.
Battles, Railways and Beauty
At the top of Lookout Mountain, you’ll find the historic incline railway which connected the mountain to the Chattanooga. This incline is the steepest one ever made, with a stop made at the famous Ruby falls as well. Learn more about is history and see how it was constructed when you visit. Or see Point Park. which is located in Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. Caves Galore in Lookout Mountain
The fairyland caverns are underground caves that comes complete with displays of classic fairies and a large castle model where different fairies ‘live’. This place is enjoyed by both children and adults. Or get a tour through Lookout Mountain Cave. This is a popular outing so book ahead. It’s also a bit of a tight squeeze, but the formations should make it worth it.
