Easo is probably the first village you will see when walking around this area, especially if you’ve been let off by a cruise ship. Here you’ll find the most beautiful old church. Built in 1898 it holds a personality and artistry of it’s own, and will normally be open for visitors all day long. Tour the church for yourself, then take a look inside the small museum on the opposite side of the street. There is also an interesting cemetery that is worth a visit just a short ways from the church.
Baie de Jinek is a lovely, sandy beach in Lifou that all visitors love to spend time on. You will find some facilities on that beach, like changing-rooms, toilets and a small tent with refreshments, and there is no entrance fee. Come and take a swim, sunbath in the blissful sun, or go snorkeling in the crystal blue waters!
You’ll have a hard time finding anywhere with as many butterflies in a single place as in Lifou New Caledonia. At the beginning of November especially there are many different kinds flitting about. Whether it’s the comfortable climate or the lack of enemies in the area, these beautiful butterflies are favorites of butterfly fans and photographers alike.
You will find traditional huts in the gardens of most modern houses in Lifou. While you are often not allowed to get very close, there is one on the way to the chapel of the Mother of God which tourists are allowed to view. A signpost invites visitors to come see the inside of the hunt, and to leave a donation for the courtesy.
