Despite the small geographical size of Kukup, the fishing village has a lot to offer its tourists. Apart from having a great time at the open-air seafood restaurants, there are many things to do in Kukup.

Climb the Aery

Climbing the Aery will give you a scenic view of the surrounding vista. There is a 30 meter-tall, a six-storey tower at the end of the boardwalk. At the sixth level of the tower, you will enjoy the quiet and peaceful view of the island, treetops and neighboring islands. If you enjoy bird watching, you should remember to carry your binoculars when visiting this site.

Visit the National Parks

There are two major national parks that you should visit to see the different kinds of plants and trees in the area. The Pulau Kukup – Johor National Park is said to be one of the largest uninhabited mangrove islands in the world. You can take a boat ride to the park and have a great time in the protected nature reserve. You will have to pay an extra fee to access the fish farms. You should also visit Tanjung Piai National Park, a designated wetland park in the southernmost tip of the continent.

Boardwalk

The 800 meter-long boardwalk allows you to cover the entire Pulau Kukup – Johor National Park. The boardwalk takes visitors around the eastern part of the island, allowing them to observe the diverse vegetation and mangrove life. The whole 800 m distance takes at least an hour if you are keen on spending time with the nature around you.

Go Shopping

There are a number of shops in the town center where you can do simple shopping for your stay in Kukup. Most of the shops in the main street sell local products at reasonable prices. Some of the items you can buy include belacan, ikan bilis, and salted fish. All these products are fresh and of good quality.

Stay Overnight

The best way to experience how the locals live is to spend time with them. Spending a night or two in Kukup will allow you to experience the life of the locals in fishing villages. Most of the establishments in Kukup will offer you accommodation packages that include a bed, an air conditioned room, all the meals and some facilities for increased comfort and entertainment.

The fantastic seafood is one of the main highlights of Kukup. While in Kukup, do not miss the chance to try tasting the fresh, delicious and cheap seafood. Take a Boat Ride

In case you arrive in Kukup before lunch, you should take a boat ride to Kelong. You will get a great view of the villages built on water and get some delicious fish and mussels when you arrive in Kelong.
