Tulip Time Festival
Much like its namesake country, Holland, Michigan loves its tulips. Every year the Tulip Time Festival celebrates these colorful flowers with a week long festival that gets everyone in the town to come out in May. They have a carnival, dances, music, delicious food and other entertainment on hand while you look at these lovely flowers.
Holland State Park
This state park has a sandy beach and pier that offer a quiet get away from the world. Whether you bring a book to read on the beach or a surfboard to handle the waves, you’ll find something to catch your attention. The rest of the park is excellent to visit as well. There’s a lake, wooded areas for hiking and picnic tables for a lunch snack.
Holland Light House
This lighthouse goes by the nickname Big Red among locals. It dates back to 1872, with renovations done in 1936. It’s still an active lighthouse today and you can view it from Holland State Park. However, you typically don’t have the opportunity to actually go into the lighthouse, so keep that in mind.
Downtown Holland
During the winter, snow falls in Holland and the downtown area turns into a festive neighborhood filled with lights. Victorian-era architecture lines the streets and 100 small businesses offer everything from ice cream to jewelry. You get a real taste of small-town Holland as you go from shop to shop run by locals.
Nelis’ Dutch Village
This destination started off as a single Dutch market in 1952. Over the years, the Nelis family grew it into a full village that has a restaurant, stores, a petting zoo and plenty of information about Dutch culture.
Holland Princess
A relaxing lake cruise is a great way to spend an afternoon. The Holland Princess sets out on Lake Michigan and includes a delicious dinner. When you go to the upper deck, you get to enjoy a gorgeous view.
