Things to Do in Glass House Mountains National Park, Australia

Things to do in Glass House Mountain National Park, Australia

Glass House Mountains National Park is one of Queensland’s most impressive landmarks. This group of steep sided plugs of trachyte and rhyolite was once within volcanoes. The following attractions are a must see during your visit:

Glasshouse Mountains – Mt. Beerburrum

Wow! What a view you have when you reach the top of Mt. Beerburrum! Keep in mind, this trek IS NOT FOR THE UNFIT, it is EXTREMELY STEEP.  As you hike, you can see glimpes through the trees that will give you an idea of what you will see upon reaching the top. At the summit is a Fire tower to climb for a better view. You can see as far as the main Brisbane CBD as well as a beautiful, clear view of all of the Glasshouse mountains. The hike is only 700metres, but as already stated, make sure you are fit.  The hike down is extremely steep so take caution descending as well.

This is a MUST DO IF YOU CAN!

Mount Tibrogargan– Glasshouse Mountains

Mount Tibrogargan, named by Captain Cook during his epic voyage along Australia’s east coast, is one of the many volcanic plugs left by volcanic activity millions of years ago. The mountains feature a variety of wildlife as well as rare and threatened plants. There is a well-graded track to three lookouts overlooking Mt. Tunbubulla (The Twins), Tibberoowuccum, Coonowrin and Beerwah.

Glasshouse Mountains- Mt. Coonowrin

This mountain is also known as Crooked Neck. Follow the brown signs to the lookout of the high, funny-shaped mountain. The road is narrow, but the views once again are fabulous. Keep in mind, if you meet a car on the one-lane bitumen, each driver must get one wheel of your car off the edge of the road in order to pass each other.

Steve Irwin Way- Tourist Route 24

Originally known as the Glasshouse Mountains tourist drive,  drivers can take the Landsborough exit near the Caloundra turnoff on the Bruce Highway to reach the scenic drive. When travelling south, you will come upon the famous Australia Zoo in Beerwah. The drive provides spectacular views of the Glasshouse Mountains, ranges, Brisbane, coastal beaches and Moreton Island sand dunes. There are several walking paths and lookouts along the way to enjoy as well.
