The Troll

This is a must-see in the town. The Troll is the most notable piece of street artwork in Fremont. Many visitors stop by the giant statue to have their picture taken every day. The public art installation was put there as part of a contest in 1989 to put a piece of art under the Aurorao Bridge.

Sunday Market

If you are in Fremont on the weekend, the Sunday market is a must-visit. It is a massive flea market and given the eccentric nature of the people who live there, you may be surprised at what you find for sale. The market was even featured in a PBS show about flea markets around the United States.

Drawbridge

Fremont has the busiest drawbridge in the country. One great place to watch the ships go under the bridge is on the Burke Gilman Trail. The towers have some interesting artwork, including Rapunzel in one of the windows, keeping an eye on the other artwork in the towers. The bridge turns one hundred years old soon as it was first put into use on July 4, 1917. The bridge opens on average about 35 times per day. When you hear the bridge operator sound his horn at the incoming ships, each toot of the horn represents one minute that the boat will have to wait.
