See Some Ancient Ruins

On the coast near the beach is the ruins of what used to be the leper colony on the island. Parts of the hospital are still intact. For a while, the small area was also a Turkish encampment. This is some of the best sightseeing on the island.

The Village

The village of Elounda itself contains some ruins to explore. Although, they are much less broken down than the ruins of the leper colony. The church still stands mostly as it was in ancient times. There is also a row of buildings that act as souvenir and tourists shops, but they are only open during the more busy season. One of the most breathtaking aspects of the village are the tunnels, primarily the one that you have to take to get into the city itself.

Visit Spinalonga
