Things to Do in Cebu Island, Philippines

Cebu Island Things to Do

While kicking back and relaxing on the island is always an option, it is a good idea to have some ideas as to what is available on the Island of Cebu. Here are some of the top recommendations for things to do in Cebu Island.

Swimming with the Whale Sharks

The whale shark is more or less the gentle giant of the ocean. While technically a shark (it uses gills to breathe under water instead of using a blow hole like a whale), the size of it is truly incredible. There are very few locations around the world where you can swim with such majestic creatures, which is why it’s worth it to experience this first hand.

Sand, Surf, and Sun

With warm water and a beautiful beach, there are all sorts of beach activities you can take in. Naturally, swimming is always an option. You can also book yourself a boat tour. Perhaps you want to be taken out to a great snorkel spot or just want a tour of the island so you can take in views from water instead of by land. You can also just go for a stroll on the sand. You’ll come across some fantastic food vendors while you walk, not to mention others selling small goods for purchase. There really are some fantastic little locations you can take in while out on the beach.

Mactan Shrine

This is one of the top tourist destinations on the island. It doesn’t take long to visit and you’ll be able to experience it with just a few minutes. But if you want to truly understand a local culture and what has impacted it over the years, a site like this is important. Just make sure to be respectful around the shrine, which is also known as the monument of Lapu Lapu.

Magellan’s Cross

If you are interested in explorer history or enjoy taking in religious facilities, Magellan’s Cross is somewhere you need to explore. This is a cross planted in the city by both Portuguese and Spanish missionaries. It is now surrounded by a beautifully painted dome.
