They’re (Not) Going to Disney World: Super Bowl Losers Invited to Aruba

The Super Bowl’s over, and since the Patriots won’t need to hang around New England for a victory parade, what are they going to do with their spare time? (Besides practice, we hope.) The Aruba Tourism Authority suggests that the footballers come relax and recover on a free, all-expenses-paid vacation on their sunny island.

Personally, we think Aruba should be offering these free trips to the poor Patriots’ fans, not the players, who don’t have model spouses or millions of dollars to help them recover from Sunday’s heartbreak. Nonetheless, the team should seize this opportunity to head to a football-free oasis. Tom Brady can bring Gisele along for a little respite from the sports hecklers and Gronkowski can soak his ankle in the warm ocean, or just practice his dance moves in the Aruba clubs.

Since the Patriots aren’t footing the bill, we at SmarterTravel recommend they go all out with a stay at the luxury Hotel Riu Palace Aruba, which is all-inclusive 24 hours. The linebackers can spend all day and night at the Riu’s buffets or restaurants, while the offense hits the resort’s gym, and everyone can drink away their pain at the pool bar.

If you’re not making millions for dropping balls that would have sealed a victory, but still want to get away from New England’s winter weather, we suggest you stay at the more affordable, but still nice, Aruba Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino, which is currently running a promotion from just $309 per night for a family of four. Flights aren’t too bad either—check rates from your home airport here.

No word yet on whether the Pats will take Aruba up on their offer, but judging by the mood around our Boston office, we’d suggest they get out of town for awhile.
