I am not one for long posts. We have done a few resorts and cruises but this is our first all inclusive.
Living in the NW this is a pretty long flight. The Royal does allow for room check in on line 48 hours before arrival and that was nice.
The airport is a bit hectic and the timeshare people are all around but we found our ride. The resort hotels are all on a narrow strip on land between a lagoon and the Caribbean. The Royal is across from Bubba Gumpa and hear Jimmy Buffets. Check in went well.
The hotel is very nice all in all. It does have the largest pool in Mexico we were told. The downside is there is no real beach here or anywhere nearby from what I saw. Wilma took care of that. Having come from Hawaii in the spring there was a huge difference.
The hotel itself had just been open two months and we had a Royal room. This included an in room two person Jacuzzi, huge shower the side of a walk in closet that also was a steam room plus plasma TV and Ipod.
There was a problem with hot water as there was none and the issue was the pipe was already clogged with sediment. It took one afternoon to clean it out but then it was fine. Just say something as the people before us had one cold tub.
The food was fine. We did the buffet most of the time although they offer Asian, Italian, Mexican, fusion and Gourmet. We did do the Gourmet one night. You have to call ahead. Ever one there was expecting little tales but 12 couple only sit at one long table together and two chefs cook a 5 course meal for you. We had two salmon courses, one halibut, one duck and desert. Since we live in the NW we get better fish so I would not do that again.
This is an adults only resort and the family resort is next door and we ate there at time also. The spa looks first rate but we did not do any treatments.
Cancun weather seems very changeable. Overall it was nice. The hotel and entire area is crawling with RCI vacation plan salespeople.
I have talk to two other people in our office who also took all inclusive trips this year. We are not heavy drinkers at all but after six you would think there would be some feeling. This seems to be common and the one beer I had was stronger.
To Recap
Hits: The Royal is a nice new hotel. The hanging beds in the sports bar are just some the furniture we liked. The pool was huge. There were lots of cabanas and chairs. We were at 65% full not sure about 100%.
Misses: Ocean water sports were not there. In fact I would not call it a beach. Rocks and 2000 burlap bags of sand. You have to learn to just be rude and walk away from the sales people. I do that for my job but it is a pain.
I would sure go back to Mexico but not Cancun. We had been to Cozumel already so if you go plan to get out more than we did. The Jet Ski rental was fun and a first for us. The resort is fine but if you want a sandy beach to walk on this is not it. There is NO beach to walk on at any of these hotels as far as I could tell.
