November 9th marks a very historic date in Berlin—this year, it is the 25th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall, which happened on the same date in 1989. To commemorate this event, the city is hosting many events in memorial.
Border of Lights
From November 7–9, 8,000 helium-filled white balloons will light up a 9.5-mile stretch where the wall used to be. Video screens next to the balloons will play historic video footage from the time. On November 9th, the balloons (made of biodegradable materials) will be released into the sky.
AirBerlin will offer three sightseeing flights on November 8th. The flights will fly at a low altitude and retrace the course of the former wall.
