Taiping is a Malaysian town that has a reputation for getting the strongest rains in the country. Despite the rains, tourists should still get out and find one of the local attractions to see.

Nature Sights

Taiping Lake Garden is one of the oldest parks in the country. Set up in 1880 to beautify the former mining area, it is a scenic place with lots of flowers, trees, and shrubs, which in turn form a nice habitat for a variety of birds and insects. The Lake Gardens is a good place to take a walk and take photos. Enjoy a stroll by its lakes and relax beneath the trees, which are abundant in the area.

Another place to visit is the Taiping Zoo. Established in 1961, the zoo is the oldest zoological garden in Malaysia. It covers 34 acres of ground and contains exhibits of various animals such as amphibians, mammals, and reptiles. There are 1,300 animals and nearly 180 species inside.

Cultural Sites

The Perak Museum is the oldest museum in Malaysia. It normally displays old fighter jets, steam carriages, statues of historical figures, the stone marking of Maharaja Lela’s Fort, ancient stone slab graves, and ancient perahus (canoes).

Another tourist destination is the Clock Tower of Taiping, which was built in 1881. Originally built of wood, the structure was rebuilt from bricks nine years later. It is one of the most well known landmarks in the region.
