One of the most charming villages in Hungary, Szentrendre is an easy day trip from many places including the capital. You can get to Szentendre in many different ways.
Taking the Train
Getting to Szentrendre from the Budapest is easy. There’s a bright green train that departs about every fifteen minutes. Head to Batthyány Square and then look for the M2 red metro line. It’s an inexpensive ride and you’re there in forty minutes.
Another easy way to get to the town is by bus. To catch a bus, you’ll need to find the Árpád Bridge coach station. It’s in the center of town so it’s not difficult. From there, it will take you about half an hour once the bus arrives at the station. Ask the driver to let you know when the stop is coming up.
Perhaps the most delightful way to arrive in Szentendre is by boat. Keep in mind this will take the longest but the trip is well worth it to admire the scenery along the way. Look for Mahart. This is the largest Hungarian shipping company. Officials here operate a boat services that goes between Budapest and Szentendre every day in the tourist season If you’re here from April to September, it will take you about an hour but it’s a great way to cool off.
Driving or Biking
If you’re really fit, you can take a bike. It runs along motorway 11 and will bring you into the center of town. If you prefer to drive, you can take the same motorway from anywhere in Hungary right to the village.
