Sydney Things To Do — Attractions & Must See

Sydney Things To Do

Home to spectacular beaches, many renowned landmarks and broad streets, Sydneysiders, as they are known, welcome visitors from all over the world. A trip here makes it easy to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s finest attractions.

Classic Attractions

Several landmarks mark the city skyline. One of the most famous is the Harbour Bridge. It is actually possible to climb along the arc of the bridge on foot. The Pylon climb is for those who are not afraid of heights. Tours bring travelers 87 meters above sea level so they can see the entire harbor as they climb. Along the way, climbers can get an opportunity to see exhibits depicting how the bridge was created. Bring a good pair of shoes. After the climb upwards, the rest of the bridge can also be traversed on foot.

Another popular attraction is the Sydney Opera House. With unusual angles, the Opera House remains a icon of modern architectural style. The white panels are often lit up at night with brilliant colors, making them visible from every angle. You can catch a performance or take a behind-the-scenes tour.

Darling Harbour Attractions

One of the main tourist areas in Sydney, Darling Harbour has a lot to see and do. Adults and children alike will find many wonderful attractions. There’s the Sealife Sydney Aquarium, which is dedicated to showing off local marine mammals. There’s also the the Wildlife Sydney Zoo, with exhibits about native animals. The Powerhouse Museum is the major branch of the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences. Dozens of exhibits encourage children and adults to learn about everything from the decorative arts to the history of the steam engine and modern scientific concepts.

There are many other attractions, including the Australian National Maritime Museum, where you can get a feel for the original European settlers. The area also includes the Chinese Gardens of Friendship, which offers an authentic Chinese garden that makes a pleasant retreat on a hot day. You can also have a Chinese meal here.

When you’re done exploring the area, you can sit down at the Star. The Star has a live theater, a casino, and many eateries. At night, this is where you’ll find nightclubs and popular regional bars. This is also where you can find impromptu entertainment such as buskers and other street performers offering dancing and live music. Light shows are also common here at night, making it easy to sit down and watch from a public park.
