Only an hour from Atlanta sits Pine Mountain, a summer-vacation wonderland packed with activities for the whole family.
For half a century, Callaway Gardens has attracted visitors seeking beauty and nature. Today you’ll find vast gardens, a butterfly house, waterfalls, and activities such as golf, bicycling, fly-fishing, and relaxing on the white sand beach. Admission is $13 for adults and $6.50 for children.
F.D. Roosevelt State Park, Georgia’s largest, also has a lot to offer. Here, you can fish and boat on Lake Delano, hit the hiking trails, or participate in events such as astronomy evenings and dances. There are plenty of spots for picnicking and camping, and cottages are available for those who don’t want to camp. Campsites cost around $25, and cottages start around $100 per night.
Nearby, the Wild Animal Safari offers a hands-on safari experience. You can tour the park in your own car, or hop on a guided tour to see giraffes, bison, antelope, zebras, and more. There’s also a walk-through section with a petting zoo, monkey house, alligator pit, and picnic areas. Admission is $17 for adults and $14 for children and seniors.
Saddle up at the Roosevelt Stables, where you’ll find a variety of guided trail rides with something for all skill and interest levels. Prices range from $35 for one-hour rides to $200 for overnight rides with a campfire dinner and cowboy breakfast.
