Portugal is an amazing area to visit, explore, learn about, and enjoy as a tourists. However, there are some individuals that have no problem with committing crimes and here are some tips on staying safe.

Bag Snatchers in Central Lisbon

Bag snatchers typically follow their victims for a little bit of time before actually committing their crimes. It is important to keep your eyes open at all times and making sure you are aware of your surroundings. If you see someone that is suspiciously following you, try to find an alternate route or proper authorities to escort you.

The best case scenario is to take the buddy system. Bag snatchers tend to stalk people that are alone, not in pairs or groups.

Petty Crimes

Petty crimes come in many forms of simple stealing and pickpocketing tourists. Be sure to not get distracted by anyone and make sure that you leave each venue with all of your items. One of the most common ways of criminals committing petty crimes is distracting you while the other pickpockets you. These individuals are pretty good at making one seem okay and normal. Nonetheless, their intentions are not in the right place.

Drug Dealers

Unfortunately there are individuals in Lisbon that will try to pester you into buying drugs. Your best bet is to politely decline their offer and continue on with your day/night. If they continue to pester you, find the closes police authority around and take appropriate measures. These drug dealers work on scamming people by providing fake drugs and passing them off as real.
