Florida-based Spirit Airlines has been skirting the edge of offensiveness recently by naming each of its sales as if they were hurricanes (proving that one man’s natural disaster is another’s PR opportunity), but now it appears the airline has finally gone too far by bringing Jimmy Hoffa into the equation.
Spirit briefly launched an online “Hunt for Hoffa” game yesterday in which Web surfers could dig for Hoffa’s remains and (simultaneously) find low airfares. Fun. I say “briefly” because the promotion received “a couple of dozen complaints” according to Spirit spokeswoman Lynne Koreman. She adds, “It was done all in good fun and topical humor.”
The online search for Hoffa’s remains has, as a result, come to an end.
