One of the most beautiful regions of all the world, South Africa is a place where you can visit a game safari in the morning and go scuba diving with great white sharks in the evening. Much of South Africa is a dry desert, so pack for the weather extremes if you're heading outdoors.
The summer months are very hot in South Africa. Short pants and shirts that breathe are important, while socks that shuck rather than absorb moisture will keep your feet dry. In the winter a jacket can be enough to ward off the chill, but dressing in layers can help since even winter days can become warm. No matter what season, bring long sleeves and pants to change into for the evenings to ward off mosquitoes. Every season is beach season, so bring a swimsuit.
Clothes to Pack
Since South Africa may not sell the usual medicines you rely upon, take enough of a supply to cover any medical conditions. Tourists are recommended to take malaria medication before they arrive in South Africa.
Toiletries to Pack
Electronics from North America cannot be plugged in to South African power sockets, so bring an adapter to charge your phone or camera.
