Antiques And Collectibles
If you are looking for unique items to bring home, antiques and relics of the Yugoslav era and more, then head to the street market next to the Alexander Nevski Cathedral. You’ll find a bustling market with religious icons, antiques and memorabilia. This is a great place if you have the patience to dig around — you might find treasure! One of the interesting things about this market is they sell items from the former Soviet era as well as Nazi memorabilia. If you are a historian, you may find coins, uniforms, paper currency, photos, etc.
Bargaining is possible here, but know that as a tourist you may get scammed. Don’t pay a premium price for antiques unless you have experience and know the value of the piece. If you know the language or have a Bulgarian friend to shop with you will have better luck with bargaining.
This is the major shopping area in Sofia, with posh shops, cafes and beautiful architecture. You’ll find plenty of shopping, although much of it will be high-end, so it’s not really the place to search for a bargain.
