Skiathos Island Transportation – Taxi, Train, Buses & Airport Tips

Skiathos Island Transportation

The Skiathos Island is the location of the Evangelistria monastery where Greek rebels hid during the Greek War of Independence and where the first flag of Greece was created and raised up high in 1807. Here are some tips on the transportation going to and around Skiathos.

Airplanes to Skiathos

There are many charter flights to Skiathos from various European metropolitan cities during the busy season. There are flights from Athens to Skiathos year-round.

Bus from the Airport to Hotel

If you are going to take a bus to your hotel, you should know that your luggage will not be loaded onto the bus. Instead, the luggage is loaded onto trucks and dropped off at everybody’s accommodation later. You should bring along a small bag with hygiene products and clothes to change into just in case it takes the truck a long time to drop off your luggage at your hotel. If you want to avoid any delays with your luggage, you can take a taxi instead of the bus.

Skiathos Bus Service

Skiathos island is relatively small and simple to get around – there’s only one main road. The bus is excellent value for money, but it can be extremely overcrowded between 6 and 8 pm during the height of the tourist season in July or August. The bus has 26 stops between Skiathos town and Koukounaries. The bus terminal is situated at the end of Skiathos town harbor, in the direction of the airport. At the other end, you catch the bus from Koukounaries beach car park.

Taxi Service

Flagging a taxi down is easy, you’ll only have to wait a couple of minutes anywhere along the main road to catch one.
