Driving into Sirmione is a bit tricky as you have to have hotel reservations to even drive into the area. Here are some tips for transportation options while visiting Sirmione.
There are many traffic restrictions when driving in Sirmione. In order to bring a car into the area you must be staying at one of the hotels in the city. If you choose to drive while you are there it is important to know that the streets are extremely narrow and cobbled. Many of the streets are covered by low stone arches, which is why busses cannot get through. Cars and other vehicles are allowed on the streets, but the speed limit is 2 miles per hour as the streets are all full of tourists.
There are taxi services, but they are very few and mostly used to bring people from the bus station to their hotel.
The most popular form of transportation in Sirmione is the mini train. You can get on the train at Aquaria and it travels throughout the town and offers many stops. The cost of the train is about a euro.
Busses and Ferries
Another option for getting into Sirmione is by bus and ferry. You can travel to Lazise or other nearby towns by bus and catch a ferry across the lake into Sirmione. There are three types of ferries available, a fast one, a slower one, and a commercial or vehicular one. The time table for these ferries is available at the reception areas of all of the hotels.
