Singapore Transportation – Taxi, Train, Bus & Airport Tips

Singapore Transportation

Like most large cities, Singapore offers several modes of public transportation. From taxis to trains to buses, many who live in and visit Singapore travel every moment of the day. Of course, like in any big city, travelers should be aware of things they stand to benefit from and things that could put them in harm’s way.

Singapore Mass Rapid Transit: Fast, Efficient Way To Travel

According to many, there is no better way to travel through Singapore than the Mass Rapid Transit System. Whether you choose underground trains, the light rail, or buses, nothing is cleaner or more efficient. Tickets to travel with the Mass Rapid Transit System are reasonably priced, and if you are traveling more than a couple days, it is worth picking up an EZ-Link card. It makes fares cheaper, and you will receive a refund, if you do not use all the funds placed on the card.

Avoid Traveling with the Nice Imperial Bus Line in Singapore

You can buy tickets for the Nice Imperial Bus Line online, however, if you want the insurance, it will cost you more, and you can only buy it at the office. Travelers who enjoy taking advantage of the “on-board” movie will be quite disappointed, as it is not accessible until more than two hours into the trip. So, if you are traveling less than two hours, you will not be able to see the movie. Wi-Fi is not available either.

If you are expecting some kind of snack or meal to be served on your trip, you had better pack your own, as none is provided. If you do choose to pack a snack and drink, keep in mind there are no bathrooms available.

Take a Taxi, Get a Receipt

If you choose to travel by taxi in Singapore, you are best served by getting a receipt from the driver. This way, if you leave anything behind, you have the name of the company and the number of the taxi you traveled with. All of the charges are also listed in detail. This way you will know if the surcharges and things are legitimate.

Keep in mind, if the taxi driver does not offer you a receipt, he is breaking the law.
