Seward, Alaska, located in Kenai Peninsula Borough, population over 3,000, is named after William H. Seward, United States Secretary of State under Lincoln and Andrew Johnson.

A major fishing village, terminus of Alaska Railroad and a tourist destination via cruise ships with connections via train or Park Connection bus service to interior Alaska.

Several competitive tour organizations offer up close glacier viewing with awesome scenery and wildlife included.

Moby Dick Hostel offers the budget minded traveler shuttle service from center of town. Seward Hotel, an historic, quaint hotel, offers accommodations for the weary traveler looking for food or drink at decent prices. Moby Dick and Seward Hotel have websites for easy booking.

The “small boat” harbor contains thousands of boats for tour and fishing. Many operators offer fishing for salmon and halibut. Cruise lines have passenger cars dedicated to their respective companies, pulled by Alaskan Railroad power, providing transportation to Denali National Park.

The Alaskan Sea Life Center offers glimpses of several species of sea birds native to Alaska. Puffins, sea lions and otters just some of the creatures on exhibit for up close views.

Many fine restaurants abut the marina offering delicious and a varied menu. The usual tourists shops offer mementos at bargain prices.
