Bezistan Shopping Area
Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. If you plan on doing any shopping while in town, checkout the BBI Center, the bazaaars, and Ferhadija.
The BBI Center is a shopping complex in the heart of the city. Several stories tall, you can find everything from fresh produce and chocolate to restaurants, bars, and designer clothing stores. BBI Center is one of the largest malls in the country, so it's a must stop for the shoppers in your group.
Bascarsija is the main tourist shopping area and the city's original bazaar. The market was created around the same time that the city was established, back in the 15th century. There you can find hand crafted copper, coffee sets, jewelry, crafts, paintings, clothing, blankets, and much more. While Bascarsija may be the most famous, there are plenty of other bazaars around town that you can explore.
Ferhadija is a busy street lined with cafes, bars, restaurants, and brand name stores. This area is perhaps best known for its nightlife. If you're in the area, grab a local pint and get a feel for the city.
Dating back to 1555, the Bezistan was recently restored, and today is one of the finest covered markets in Sarajevo. Here, you'll find hand-sewn blankets, clothing, silver, gold, and local artwork. If you're headed to Bezistan, don't forget your camera. Ottoman architecture is on full display and offers a glimpse into the city's past.
