Beyond the Basics – What to Pack
Santa Barbara is a beautiful destination featuring miles of pristine beaches. Whether you’re a photographer, surfer, hiker, camper, or sunbather, you can be certain that a great time awaits you in Santa Barbara. Temperatures average in the mid to upper 70s in the summer, and never really fall below 50 degrees at night in the winter. This makes Santa Barbara an ideal vacation destination year round.
Like many beachside destinations, casual dress is the norm. Bring your swimsuit, sandals, walking shoes, and shorts. In case the night gets cool, make sure to bring a warm jacket and a pair of jeans. It does rain in Santa Barbara so an umbrella may come in handy. But, the real reason you’re going there is the sun, so don’t forget those sunglasses! If you plan on hiking, a hat will be needed as well.
Clothes to Pack
Once you have the basics packed up, there are further recommendations on what to bring on your Santa Barbara trip. Some people recommend a wetsuit as the average water temperature, even in July, is approximately 63 degrees.
Santa Barbara has some really excellent picture taking opportunities and it is recommended that you bring a camera. A wide angle lens is essential for getting good shots of the buildings in town and a good zoom lens really helps you get fantastic pictures of hummingbirds.
You’ll definitely need a backpack to haul stuff around, and once you arrive in Santa Barbara, make sure to pick up a map and guidebook. You do not want to miss out on any of the great parks, beaches, and gardens Santa Barbara has to offer.
