Salzburg is a city in Austria that is famously known as the birthplace of the legendary classical composer, Wolfgang Mozart. Today it remains a relatively large city with plenty of shops and stores to visit.
The Christmas Store is a very famous shop in Salzburg that sells Christmas items all year round. It can actually get quite packed with people due to its popularity. This very unique shop sells eggs, for which it is well known. The catch is that they’re not meant for eating. Instead, these are emptied eggshells that are hand painted with beautiful designs and used as all types of ornaments. The Christmas Shop is also crammed full of baubles and other decorations.
Every year from the end of November through end of December, the Christmas market is situated in Cathedral Square and has been in its current form since 1974. Along with the usual stalls selling their goods, there are also performances by choirs and children’s groups. You will also find the Advent brass band, which can be heard in the Residence Square every Saturday.
During the weekdays and on Saturdays, the Universistatplatz (University Square) and its surrounding streets become an all-day market filled with all kinds of goodies. Visitors can find assorted food trucks, food stalls, meat stands, vegetable dealers, fruit sellers, and souvenir stalls. This area basically becomes a small flea market. Food producers and farmers from the neighboring provinces of Salzburg in Austria, and even from German Bavaria, fill the market with their own products.
