Salzburg The Christmas Store and Other Shopping

Shopping in Salzburg: The Christmas Store

Salzburg is a beautiful city in Austria with views of the Alps, and is in close proximity to Germany. With its history and lovely winter setting, it’s no wonder people visit Salzburg for The Christmas Store and other shopping experiences.

Shopping in Salzburg for Christmas

Christmas is a very special time in Salzburg. Many tourists visit to shop for all things Christmas-like and festive. Walk anywhere around the old town, and you will be inundated with the spectacle of Christmas decorations and seasonal goods of every sort. All of the shops and market stalls here are within a small area–particularly if they are on the Goldgasse passageway. You will not have to travel far to go from one to another.

Apart from the Christmas decorations and flowers, the range of chocolates and liquors is of outstanding quality. It is worth bringing back some to share with those at home as well as for a personal souvenir. Do not expect to pick up too many bargains however; Salzburg has many tourists and the local businesses sell goods at top dollar prices.

The Christmas Store in Salzburg

One of the most famous and sought out shops on Goldgasse is The Christmas Store. It houses a magical collection of every kind of Christmas decoration and accessory imaginable. You’re sure to find mementos to take home with you. It also sells Christmas items all year round, and is actually packed with people wanting to buy no matter what the season is. The store has wonderful things to offer and there is something for everyone, so it’s worth popping in for a look.

The Christmas Store is located at Judengasse 10, A-5020 in Salzburg. You can find it at the end of Getriedegasse towards Mozartplatz. If you follow Getreidegasse to where it meets with Judengasse, you’ll see it on the left hand side next to the Hotel Altstadt. Either way, ask about this store and anyone in town will know what you’re talking about and can direct you to it. But despite its popularity amongst tourists, the shop offers a quiet and cozy atmosphere that adds to its charm.

Spending your Money for Specialties at The Christmas Store

The Christmas Store is known for mostly Christmas fare, but also carries festive items of any season. The shop is now larger, and incorporated an Easter Shop from recent years past that used to exist nearby.

Apart from Christmas ornaments of every sort and other decorations, this very unique place is known for the eggs it sells. The catch is that they’re not meant for eating; these eggs are emptied eggshells that are hand painted with beautiful designs, used as all types of ornaments. Christmas, Easter, spring, even Halloween, they are all represented. There are thousands of these hand-painted eggs, particularly Christmas ones, and each is uniquely decorated with different colors and patterns. They are extremely fragile but make great gifts. Take as many back as you can carry.

The prices for the items in general are more or less fair, depending on what you get. Overall, you can expect to pay a bit more, as it’s a tourist destination. Prices in The Christmas Store range from $5-$200 USD, but they have everything you need to complete your Christmas decorating frenzy and offer great unique gifts.
