Saint Julian’s Things to Do
Saint Julian’s is a coastal city of the island of Malta, south of Italy. The island, and particularly the town of Saint Julian’s is centered on tourism. Here are Saint Julian’s things to do, attractions, and things you must see.
Spinola Bay is one of the biggest attractions to Saint Julian’s. It is larger than the others, and is packed with colorful fishing boats. There are lot of restaurants at the end of the bay, and many have outdoor seating overlooking the bay. Spinoloa Bay is the most popular, as well as the attached square. Balluta Bay is a smaller bay that is more popular with locals. Mellieha Bay has the biggest and nicest beach, but it can get very crowded in summer. Swimming and water sports abound here as well. It is possible to walk from one bay to another.
Spinola Palace and Ballutta Square are both public areas off the bays with the same name. Spinola area has a palace and surrounding gardens that were built in 1688. Spinola Palace was built by Fra Paolo Raffaele Spinola. It was heavily damaged by French troops during a way, so it is hard to tell when or if it will be opened. At Balluta Square there is Carmelite Church, which is very old here, as well as other historical sights. While it is a favorite with locals, it seems like a quiet place when compared the more tourist areas. It might be a good place to go if you are starting to feel hassled. There are often fruit and vegetable vendors selling their wares as well.
Paceville is one of the neighborhoods of Saint Julian’s. This is the nightlife center of Malta. The streets have many clubs and bars, and often with the front doors open you can hear the music blasting. There are some nicer restaurants, as well as basic cafes filled with local color. A cinema and a bowling center are also part of the Paceville scene. There is also an artificial beach nearby that is lit up at night, so you can relax there after a wild night out in Paceville.
