Rouen is lovely and picturesque to say the least! But along with it’s unique charm comes plenty of shops to enjoy. Here are some shops, stores, best buys and inside tips to make your Rouen shopping experience successful and fun!
You’ll find there is no shortage of shops in Rouen. There’s everything from the cheap clothing stores like Pim to the high-end stuff like Hugo Boss (and everything in between). There are also many make-up and perfume stores, bookstores, electronics stores- you name it. The city center is the perfect place to start your shopping expedition.
Rouen is the perfect spot for antique shopping. There is a shop near Aître Saint Maclou, (right by the side of the entrance) that is a good place to start. There are also shops that have hand-painted earthenware, or items you can have painted specially for you.
At the end of rue du Gros Horloge, just as you enter Place du Vieux Marche, there is a very special shop which is impossible to skip. Its name is Auzou, and it specializes in chocolate! Look for the small tower of macaroons on the street and there you’ll find it- this den of decadent delights. One of their specialties is “les larmes de Jeanne d’Arc” – Joan of Arc’s tears, which are an almond and nougat concoction covered in chocolate.
They have a range of the macaroons in many different colors and flavors and also a good selection of fudge. Another favorite is the small baskets of jagged sheets of chocolate, some with nuts or fruit in different chocolate blends. These look great and make fabulous gifts. The only problem is traveling in warm weather with loads of chocolate you want to bring home for your friends!
