Relaxing in the Rivera Maya Mexico

Author: Gloria LaM
Date of Trip: December 2013

Rivera Maya Mexico offers many opportunities to relax ,swim, snorkel, dive, and enjoy the culture of the area.

A non stop flight from New York to Cancun is about four hours. The Cancun airport is very busy, be prepared to wait on line for one half hour or more to clear customs. After you clear customs you will be approached by many time share hawks they will waste your time and confuse you, totally ignore them walk straight ahead and go out side the terminal.Hotel representatives will be waiting for you outside the terminal .The reps will hold up signs with the name of the company they represent, they will lead you to the van or car that will take you to your hotel.

Rivera Maya has many hotels and all inclusive. You have a choice of three star to luxury hotels. We have been going to the Rivera Maya for many years and have always been pleased and enjoyed all our vacations. We usually visit in early December because the rates are good and the hotels do special things for the holiday season. It can get a little cool in the evening be sure to bring a light sweater May is also a good month to visit the weather is usually very nice at that time of year.

The ride to your hotel can be from a half an hour to two hours depending on the location and the stops the van makes. The vans are modern the road is well paved so the ride is not an issue for us.

Rivera Maya offers many interesting and cultural places to visit. If you enjoy ruins visit Tulum ,Coba or Chichen-Itza .Xel-ha offers excellent snorkeling.

Xcaret Eco park has so much to do you can not see it all in one day. We opted to watch a few shows all excellent and swim in the cenote it is a unique fun experience. The evening show is one of the most amazing shows we have ever seen be sure not to miss it. It is a little pricy but take note the park is spotless and beautiful also animals have to be fed etc and it is a full day of entertainment well worth the price.

You can do shopping in Playacar or just spend some time at a cafe.Coco Bongo is lots of fun.

All inclusive hotels offer entertainment every evening and many things to do during the day.

The Mexican workers offer excellent service and will try to make your stay as pleasant as possible.Keep in mind it is a Spanish speaking country and not everyone speaks English however all the front desk people speak perfect English and will help you any way they can.

If you are looking for an adult only resort the Luxury Bahia Sian Ka’an is excellent. If you prefer a family resort try the Palladium Bahia Principe Iberostar or Barcelo chains they are all very nice look on Trip Advisor for details.

We stayed at the Sian Ka’an December 2013.The rooms are very well appointed and immaculately clean. The food is above average the specialty restaurants offer excellent food and service.Pros no towel cards private beach, adults only .You can go to all the hotels in the complex if you like the hotel has a lobby bar and and a band for dancing in the evening there is no stage at the Sian Ka’an however they do have a 1/2 show in the lobby each evening. The service here is outstanding the help will do all they can to satisfy their guests.

Make sure you book your return transportation in advance.Check the pick up time they usually pick up about 4 to 5 hours before flight time.

The food court at the airport has become very expensive it is best if you can take snacks with you before you leave the hotel.

I my opinion Rivera Maya is good value it offers everything to make a beach vacation a memorable time.
