Rangoon Nightlife – Clubs, Bars & Nightlife Tips

Rangoon Nightlife

Rangoon is the biggest city and cultural epicenter of the country of Myanmar. It used to be the capital, but is still a very important city in the country and the most popular location for tourists coming through the country. One reason that tourists love Rangoon so much is because of what it offers when it comes to nightlife.

NAY PYI DAW

Rangoon can become extremely hot and NAY PYI DAW is one of the best places to escape it. It is the best cinema in the city. You will probably be surprised at how affordable it is to catch a movie there. Most movies only cost $2 USD and they have all of the newest releases from the United States, sometimes even before they get them in America. At one time, it was the only cinema in the city and was where Burmese royalty came to watch movies.

50th Street Bar

Tourists love going to this bar because they can get a little taste of the local flair while there. This is because both natives and outsiders like to spend time there on the weekends. On the weekends they have live music. They serve local food, unlike many of the other bars in the area that try to cater to Americans by serving their version of American fare.

19th Street

The more popular nickname for this street is Barbecue Street, thanks to the fact that it turns into a barbecue each evening. The road is closed off from cars at night so pedestrians can walk along the street and get something to eat. The same restaurants are open during the day, but it is far less conducive. The changeover usually happens at around 5 p.m. each day.

Mr. Guitar Bar

The name of this club probably makes you think that it is a rock n’ roll club. Well, it is, but the Burmese version of it. As you probably know, karaoke is extremely popular in Asia and this includes the country of Myanmar and this is the hot spot for karaoke in the country. Some of the biggest singing stars in the country show up there and sing on the weekends. The most popular music is soft rock and pop classics, so expect to hear some John Denver while at Mr. Guitar Bar.
