Getting Around the Island
Widely considered one of the most beautiful islands in Malaysia, Pulau Kapas is easy to reach from the mainland. Look for boats and buses for safe, cheap and easy transport. Travel to this part of Malaysia requires some advanced planning.
You can't get directly to the island by car but you can drive to the ferries at the dock. There's an expressway that leaves Kuala Lumpur and will get you out of the city and to the ferry point in about four and a half hours.
If renting a car is not on the agenda, you can also take a bus. The bus that will get you specifically to the island is the one that leaves from Kuala Terengganu to Marang, It's inexpensive and easy to find but you need to get to the bus early as it can be quite crowded sometimes and you want to make sure you get a seat. Ask the driver to drop you off near the jetty. It's about a ten minute walk from the jetty to the ferries to the island.
Ferries from the mainland leave very frequently. There are public ferries that run from the mainland for a small fee. There's also private boats that you can hire on your own. Negotiate the fee before you leave. The trip takes about fifteen minutes and makes a refreshing trip on a hot day.
The island is very small so you won't need any form of transportation once you're there. A fifteen minute walk will easily bring you anywhere you need to be.
